Upcycling: How to Paint Wood Furniture
By Sara Valor
Like many other families, we have quite a few old pieces of wood furniture. Some of them were stained in dark color wood stain when it was brand spanking new and no doubt at that time it was beautiful. We also have some pieces of wood furniture that are unfinished pieces of wood furniture, since they were never stained or painted and left unfinished. Rather than throwing out good durable pieces of wood furniture, we decided that we would do some upcycling or recycling of several different pieces of furniture. For instance, we have an old unfinished wooden fish tank cabinet, which we use as a TV stand. We also have an unfinished wooden kitchen cabinet that was never included in the remodeled kitchen rather it was given to my youngest child by her uncle. We use this cabinet in the bedroom for holding DVDs, CDs and other items. We decided to paint the wooden furniture after finding some mis-tinted paint that someone else did not want. You can find mis-tint paint just about anywhere where paint is mixed and sold. You see, some people may go into the paint department and choose a color of paint. The color is mixed in the paint and then perhaps that person is not pleased or satisfied with the color of the paint after mixing. They may forget to come back to get the paint they have mixed and waiting for them. After so long, the store will mark the paint down to half price. This means you can actually save about half the money you would use to paint wood furniture. For instance, you can get 2 gallons of paint for the price of one gallon if you find two gallons of the same shade or you might want to use different colors. By upcycling or recycling your wood furniture by painting it with mis-tined and discounted paint, you can decorate any room in the house and save money while doing it. It is also a good green idea too since you will be using what you already have rather than throwing it out into a landfill or paying a company to go cut down another tree. Upcycling by learning how to paint wood furniture provides you with beautiful and colorful furniture that you can take pride in as well as pride in your self or your family while helping to save our planet and natural resources.
